All modern vehicles use sophisticated Electronic Control Units (or ECU) that manage every aspect of the operation of the vehicle. The ECU that controls the engine determines the conditions the vehicle is operating under at any time (temperature, load, fuel condition and more) and then attempts to optimise the various aspects of the internal combustion process to meet those conditions. Naturally, to save costs, manufacturers use a general programme for their vehicles not especially tuned to the requirements of the UK and definitely not tuned to the specific uses of your vehicles.

In Stage 1, GreenLane install an advanced Telemetry Eco-Track system that records and reports your vehicle’s fuel use and driving style. Without the actual data you can’t set realistic reduction targets.

At this stage we help you look at driver styles, harsh revving, hard breaking, excessive speed, vehicle optimisation and route management. These interventions will result in a substantial saving.

Following these behavioural and operations changes you will see a measurable return on the investment, and then we move to Stage 2. This involves re-programming (usually called re-mapping) the vehicle’s ECU to allow it to operate in a range more suited to the use of the vehicle.

Re-programming of the ECU can provide a better optimization of the engine and fuel usage. In addition, the reprogramming can include specific characteristics to ensure a lowering of the CO2 and NOX produced by the vehicle.
